Dear Mr Cummiskey,
We would like to invite you to exhibit your artwork in the next edition of the Florence Biennale.  After reviewing your artwork present in internet, the Internal Committee has expressed favourable opinion for your participation. The seventh edition of the Biennale will be held from 3 to 11 December 2011.
Marian Abramovic and Shu Yong in 2009, Gilbert & George in 2007, Christo and Jeanne-Claude and Richard Anuskiewicz in 2007 and David Hockney in 2003 were awarded with the maximum recognition, the Lorenzo il Magnifico award for their career.

The Biennale attracted an impressive number of enthusiasts, artists and visitors. Each day of the seventh edition was studded with collateral events and conferences, such as that of Gregorio Luke, Former Director of the MOLAA at Long Beach, among others that can be seen in our website www.florencebiennale.org

I exhibited at this Biennale in 2003.

Yes Folks. Its official – The first Virtual Art Fair.

Taking place on line in January 2011 for 7 days.

Participants include blue chippy galleries like David Zwirner, Hauser and Wirth, White Cube, Gagasion, Salon 94.

While the online fair permits free browsing, interactive capabilities will cost “visitors” $100. This means no more chit-chatting with dealers about the work they’re handling for the unwashed masses.

The virtual booths in the fair are priced from $5,000 to $20,000. How did you come up with these figures?

We started with the price of the larger booths — $20,000 is roughly 20 percent of what the total cost of a brick-and-mortar fair would be. Because there dealers have not only booth cost, but also travel, hotel, and so forth.

Next Sunday – 22/08/2010 – I will be exhibiting my artwork in my first Virtual Art Fair.

My friend Duncan is hosting a Virtual Art Fair.

Tours are free, booth space is free (~.00000001% of the norm!) but limited to 10 web-ready works each, either as <2MB files or as hotlinked media.

Interactivity is free.

You can “curate” your own tour by collecting URLs and posting them together as a comment on an upcoming blog post. He gets 0% of any sales the booths/artists make, and visitors can record whatever they want. Go, capitalism, go!

Absorbed

Dublin now joins Iowa, Melbourne and Edinburgh as designated UNESCO Cities of Literature. This is a permanent title.

It is with great pleasure that I heard this news during the week.

Everyone in and from Dublin is delighted that UNESCO has honoured the city by designating it as a UNESCO City of Literature.

It is good news and gets us away from the greed and stupidity that have been the highlights of the news for too long.

Vive Dublin! Proud Dubliner abroad.

The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural organization (UNESCO) created the award as part of it’s Creative Cities Network. The network was designed to promote the social, economic and cultural development of cities in both the developed and the developing world.

Speaking about the award. Mary Hanafin T.D., Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport said “Dublin has been awarded this accolade because of the rich historical literary past of the city, the vibrant contemporary literature, the variety of festivals and attractions available and because it is the birthplace and home of literary greats”.

She added, “Names such as Swift, O’Casey, Wilde, Shaw, Behan, Beckett and Joyce are synonymous with Dublin and there are reminders of their great literary works throughout the city – which captures both scholars and tourist imaginations when they visit the city.”

Ms Hanafin added: “Being one of only four cities in the world to achieve the status of Unesco City of Literature will enable Dublin to increase its market share of tourists and attract more people to both the city and the island of Ireland.”

What does this designation signify? Primarily it acts as a branding tool. It demonstrates that writing is cherished in Ireland. There will be a cultural impact and there may also be an economic one if properly harnessed.

The designation focuses attention on the role of the artist in the community. Society needs both moneymakers and artists, of course, because wealth-creators allow people to earn the money to buy an artist’s work.

The application to UNESCO was made by a steering and management group led by Dublin City Council’s library service. People who believe in the worth of books beyond any monetary value beavered away on this for three years in the belief it could benefit Ireland.

Poems of James Joyce

Shakespeare and Co., Paris, published Pomes Penyeach, by James Joyce, in 1927.

An American, Sylvia Beach, who was a patron of Joyce, owned this publishing business and bookshop. She was the first publisher of Ulysses in 1922.

Joyce also published 36 short poems entitled Chamber Music.

I have painted a series of James Joyce’s Poems in watercolours using waterproof ink on hand made Indian paper where I have given the paper an aged appearance.

Each painting is given its attributable date of the poems composition.

Terms of Engagement, Part I — Mikaela Sardo LaMarche, curator for ACA Galleries, NYC, had a clear objective for the July N*des-of-the-Month calendar. In the Call for Entries she was seeking “excellent technical skill coupled with a strong aesthetic sense….works that allow the viewer to enter the picture and…engage the composition and subject.”

Selected from over 800 submissions, the 31 excellent artworks in this calendar seem to express serenity and peace, something much needed in a world increasingly chaotic. Enjoy!
