The making of the documentary A Stroll Through Ulysses.
Mr. Bloom
Bloomsday – June 16th – is an annual celebration among James Joyce fans throughout the world, from Fort Lauderdale to Melbourne. It is celebrated in at least sixty countries worldwide, but nowhere so imaginatively, of course, as in Dublin, Ireland where Joyce was born and about which he wrote extensively.
The novel, Ulysses, by James Joyce recounts the hour-by-hour events of one day in Dublin – June 16, 1904 – as an ordinary Dubliner, Leopold Bloom, wends his way through the urban landscape, the odyssey of a modern-day Ulysses. This year celebrates the 104th anniversary.

Dedicated and not so dedicated followers of James Joyce and his writings have some fun on Bloomsday – which now can stretch to Blooms week – dressing up in garb of the period, reading passages from Ulysses, knocking back copious amounts of alcohol and chatting about probably one of the best known novels in the World, few people have read and many not understood! Daft but fun!
This painting by Roger Cummiskey is from James Joyce’s caricature of Leopold Bloom, drawn in Myron Nutting’s studio in the 1920’s.

Everybody wants to help but we are as Artists inundated with requests for artwork. These requests run into the hundreds each week. The line must be drawn as each is a good cause and a genuine effort very well intentioned.
I have subscribed to the efforts by Monkdogz Gallery in New York as the silent auction of original art works that they are running is uncomplicated. The web address is above if you are interested in putting in your tuppence worth as an Artist, Collector or simply as a way to be involved.
100% of all proceeds will go directly to UNICEF, Partners in Health and Oxfam.
Auction starts 01/03 and continues to 31/03.

Silent Auction of Small Original Art Works
Over one hundred artists from around the world have come together to create a silent auction of small original artworks. 100% of all proceeds will go directly to UNICEF, Partners in Health and Habitat for Humanity, to support the people in Haiti.
Artists have donated over 250 small works, all about 5″x7″ (13 cms x 18 cms) in size which are displayed in the “ART” section. The works are available as a silent auction which closes at:
Wednesday, March 31st at 11:59 EST
The works are displayed anonymously but all artists, sponsors and winning bidders are credited under the “Supporters” section.
To bid for artwork please register first in the “Auction” section.
You can also help greatly by just promoting this project and website to all your friends and networks.
Thank-you for your caring support and generosity!

Dear Roger
First of all we want to say a very big thank you for your involvement in the Haitian Art Fund. You were one of 130 artists from all over the world.
The online auction raised over US$3500 so far. These funds are currently being sent by the winning bidders directly to Partners in Health, Habitat for Humanity and UNICEF who are working with the people of Haiti to restructure and improve their lives in these difficult times.
A number of works received bids and a number of pieces of really excellent work did not. The only reasonable answer is that in the limited time frame despite everybody’s best efforts to promote the auction, we did not receive the exposure we had hoped for.
Therefore we would like to create a second event to provide additional exposure for the works that have not sold at this time. We are confident that because of the quality of these works that there is an opportunity here to raise additional funds for the people of Haiti. We believe all of the works contributed by artists from all over the world are pre-ordained to fulfill their intent and purpose to find a home where they are appreciated and to generate funds to benefit these people who are in need of our love and support.
We will keep you posted as to the development of this second project.
Please find attached a copy of an advert that was placed in the April/May issue of Gallery & Studio Magazine through the generosity of Ed & Jeannie McCormack, the Managing Editor and Publisher of the magazine.
Again we thank you for joining us in this project. It has been a pleasure working with you.
Best
Bob, Marina & Sébastien
