Through to the next round! It will be announced today, 30/09/2010, at 17.30 h on Málaga radio that Málaga City are through to the next round in their bid to become the Spanish European City of Culture 2016.

Six Spanish cities remain in the running for the honour
Málaga has failed to pass the first cut, announced on Thursday, in the race to be chosen as European Capital of Culture for 2016, by the President of the selection committee, Manfred Gaulhofer.
The announcement made in the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, means the end to a six years of efforts to promote the cultural attractions of the city.
Six Spanish cities remain in the race for the nomination. They are Córdoba, Burgos, Segovia, San Sebastián, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Zaragoza.
In June 2011 the Spanish finalist will be named, and that city will fight for the honour with the chosen finalist from Poland.

MÁLAGA, CRISOL DE NACIONALIDADES: UNO DE LOS PUNTOS CLAVES PARA EL 2016
La Fundación Málaga Cultural refuerza lazos con la comunidad extranjera residente en Málaga.
Los responsables de la Fundación Málaga Ciudad Cultural se reunieron ayer con los representantes de más de 30 grupos internacionales residentes en Málaga para reforzar su potencial como «embajadores» de Málaga. Sin duda, el crisol de nacionalidades que conviven en la provincia es una de las grandes riquezas culturales con las que cuenta la candidatura malagueña para ser Capital Europea de la Cultura en 2016.
Al acto, celebrado en el Rectorado de la Universidad de Málaga, acudieron el alcalde, Francisco de la Torre, el presidente y el gerente de la Fundación Málaga Cultural, Juan López Cohard y Javier Ferrer; y la vicerrectora de Cultura de la UMA, María Isabel Calero. El examen de la candidatura malagueña en Madrid, el próximo 28 de septiembre, parece tener nerviosos a todos los responsables del proyecto. De hecho, minutos antes del acto de ayer, la vicerrectora de Cultura de la UMA inició una acalorada discusión con Francisco de la Torre y López Cohard al respecto de la comitiva malagueña que viajará a Madrid.
El apoyo internacional que se le brinda a Málaga 2016 crece a pasos de gigantes. Muestra de ello es el interés que ponen, día a día, el grupo de voluntarios internaciones que trabajan con distintas asociaciones de extranjeros residentes en la Costa del Sol. Su misión no es otra que la de promocionar a Málaga como candidata cultural europea, y no les falta ni el interés, ni el empeño, ni las ganas para conseguirlo, ya que se han involucrado totalmente en todo lo que respecta a Málaga 2016.
Convenios
La candidatura malagueña cuenta con diversos convenios y apoyos con distintas asociaciones de carácter internacional, como son la Asociación Holandesa Parasol; el Grupo Internacional de Artistas de Andalucía; el periódico holandés Costanews; Collegium Musicum Costa del Sol; coro y orquestra con representantes de 17 países y NADFAS Decorative and Fine Arts Society. Además, fruto de esta última colaboración, Málaga 2016 fue invitada a estar presente en el Festival Internacional de Arte de Marbella.
