Chamber Music

March 7th, 2010

Chamber Music - rogercummiskey - p136

Chamber Music # V by James Joyce is the subject for this painting that will be auctioned for charity at the Dorchester Hotel in London in April in aid of the peace keeping work being undertaken by Cooperation Ireland.

I have interpreted it in this original watercolour and ink drawing. 28 x 20 cm on Indian handmade paper.

The poem was published in 1915.

It was also recorded by Pink Floyd singer Syd Barrett in 1969. “Golden Hair” is on his CD, The Madcap Laughs.

Lean out of the window,

Goldenhair,

I hear you singing

A merry air.

My book was closed,
I read no more,
Watching the fire dance
On the floor.

I have left my book,
I have left my room,
For I heard you singing
Through the gloom.

Singing and singing
A merry air,
Lean out of the window,
Goldenhair.

And the buyer was Mr N Wilson, London, for the princely sum of 1,375 GBP. Thank you!
