We are nearly finished with January 2010 and we are still steeped in the middle of the International crisis. The big shots are not solving the problems that they got us into and for which we all have to pay. The outlook is not good but it is true to say that during the past year we have never worked as hard as we have done to stand still and not disappear or give up.
Maybe we are lean and mean and ready for any sign of a recovery. Sadly, so many around us are losing their jobs, closing down or just quitting as they cannot afford to keep going.
During the months of January and February I have been involved in six new exhibitions with my fellow artists from the Andalusian International Artists Group and also in solo shows. But nobody has sold at these exhibitions! The numbers attending opening receptions are well down and those (former buyers) that do show up are not inclined to invest further at this time.
I was involved in two shows during February with all of the attendant hullabaloo and optimism. I have one commission for April from a client in the UK for which I am happy but I still feel that I must produce new work going into the new environments that will arise through 2010 and 2011.
Existing stock in some areas has been discounted in order to try to generate some sales so if you are a collector this is a good time to pick up a genuine bargain!
In January I did three radio interviews, two with Mijas radio, one each with Karen McMahon and Maria Jose Ramon and one with Talk Radio Europe with Hannah Murray. I also did a TV Interview (available soon) with 340TV the local TV station for Mijas – News and Views.
